A Month of Survival Horror: Happy Halloween!
It’s that time of year again! Every October, I get extremely excited. Being a fan of all things spooky and horrific, I tend to celebrate Halloween during the entire month of October. Usually, it culminates with a day of horror movies on or around the actual holiday. However, given that I now have kids and will actually be going out trick-or-treating with Amelia for the first time this year, I may not be able to pull off a day long marathon of horror movie watching. So, this year, I’ve decided to try something a little different.
This year, I’m going to be playing and streaming a ton of survival horror gaming throughout the month. As seen in the Youtube link above, I’m starting off with the poop-your-pants scary Alien: Isolation. In the clip above, I’ve made it to the first appearance of the xenomorph, causing me to immediately quit for the night. The game, so far, is tense, scary, and exceedingly atmospheric. It’s the Alien game I’ve always wanted. Once I’ve completed the game, I’ll post an actual review, but so far, I’m fairly certain it will be fairly glowing (especially after the abomination that was Colonial Marines).
Next week, I’ll be playing The Evil Within, from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. I’m pretty stoked about this game. I’ve been a huge Resident Evil fan for a long time, so it’ll be nice to see a game from its creator that is actually survival horror (as opposed to the action shoot-em-up that RE:6 ended up being).
For week 3, I’ll finally play Outlast, which has been sitting in the gaming queue ever since it dropped.
So come one, come all, to my Twitch stream, and watch as I poop my pants in terror! I’ll be streaming nightly, starting between 8-8:30, and ending 10-10:30. Feel free to chat me up in the chat room, or just mock me as I seriously scare myself while playing a videogame. It should be a lot of fun.
